Kabita Khanam was born in June 30, 1957 at district Naogaon in Rajshashi Division. She is the fourth child of Mohammad Bazlul Haque and Gul-e-Raihan. After completion of her school and college at Naogaon, she obtained her Graduation and Masters degree in Zoology and L.L.B degree from Rajshahi University.

She Joined Bangladesh Judicial service in Feb 22 , 1984. Throughout 32 years of her career, she served in different tire of Judiciary. She retired as Senior District & Session Judge from Rajshahi District in 2016.

The Hon’ble President of Bangladesh appointed her as the Election Commissioner in 2017 and she attained  the dignity of being the first woman Election Commissioner in Bangladesh.

She participated the conferences organized by International Association of Woman Judges in Tanzania and India.

She was married to Mr. Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury who was also from Judicial Service. They are  blessed with one daughter working as  a lecturer in a Medical College and one son working as Captain in Bangladesh Army.

She has keen interest in cooking, gardening and classical bangla music. She also likes to visit historical places in home and abroad.
